Support program for Youth initiatives

"Innovation in sustainable entrepreneurship education"

The importance of sustainable development and sustainable entrepreneurship is already well known. The growth and further development of methods of non-formal education which will promote and support youth initiatives are remaining important to ensure the positive and effective contribution of the young people to sustainable development. In this frame we activated a group of 30 young people, from different areas of Greece, with ideas and initiatives connected to sustainable development. In four periods (25 days in total) between November 2014 and May 2015, the group of youngsters organized a space for sustainable development and sustainable entrepreneurship in Lefkas. In these four periods the youngsters implemented 4 initiatives. 1. They created a “social eco garden” from which the local can benefit and improve their way of living, being reconnected with natural products and respecting the environment. 2. They constructed a standard eco house with clay, sand and straws, including an eco oven make by natural materials. The eco house is now used by the youngsters as a space for educational and environmental workshops relevant to sustainable development. 3. They created a bio gas and compost system through fermentation of animal and organic wastes. 4. They organized in the eco house, a 3 days event concerning sustainable development, in May 2015, in which local youngsters, journalists and local authorities were invited. Different activities were taken place in order to aware the beneficiaries about sustainable development and motivate the participants to adapt sustainable behaviors. Thematic workshops: gardening, eco constructions, natural cosmetics with olive oil and lemon, creation of economy LED lamps, gastronomy, presentation about sustainable development, video viewing, local products exhibition, eco game for kids, music. During the events, the young participants, presented the initiative to the public as well as the ways of using the educational space they have created. The management of the educational space, is given to local young groups for implementing educational activities about sustainable development and entrepreneurship. It is also provided in school and NGOs to visit and organize relevant activities, for the benefit of the local youngsters and citizens.
